Uniform Of The Day Poem by Luke Easter

Uniform Of The Day

In the military I was a Sergeant in the U.S.M.C.,
We either wore utilities or what we called UD’s,
That was short for our, 'Uniform Of The Day, '
Whether summer or winter, all dressed the same way.

Those who claim to be followers of Jesus should dress,
In their clothing and mannerisms that openly confess,
Like the spoken word when they open the mouth to talk,
Strong, straight and tall in an assured march as you walk.

Some of the uniforms being worn by many of us today,
Are downright scary enough to frighten Freddy Kruger away,
Then there is the nasty, hateful, loud, profane laced speech,
And the intolerable way the strong prey on the helpless weak.

Whatever happened to the neatly pressed uniform of care?
The sincere clothes of “my friend I will always be there? ”
“Anything my brother, just call me, whatever you’ll need, ”
Instead of the three-piece suit with a tie of selfish greed.

How about boots only being used in the war for attacks?
Not donned for the cruelty of walking on homeless backs?
Suits of educated politicians claming to hear sojourning cries,
Turning out to be experts in the civilian battlefield of alibis.

The greatest cover a suicide bomber will always have for wear,
Is that it’s almost impossible to tell if a bomb is hidden there,
Only difference between these fanatics and those telling lies,
Damage is immediate with the loss of dozens of innocent lives.

Sure there are scores of casualties here but it’s a painful death,
Sometime taking several years as you slowly loose your breath,
With mountains of abuse surrounded by deep rivers of neglect,
The eerie part is that it’s done without any remorse or regret.

Clothes that are chosen need to be patterned after our Savior,
We should always be draped in the forgiveness of His behavior,
Garments are shaped & donned first in the actions of our mind,
Is that outfit getting a pat on the back or a kick in your behind?

You alone are the Taylor, who designs and colors all your clothes,
Communicating in Christian garb or flying around in attack mode,
Is the walk ASAP, As Soon As Possible or Always Saying A Prayer?
The first might get there sooner but it’s the latter that proves you care.

For too many people life is a heavy burden and then they die,
When it’s over everybody is standing around and asking why,
How about getting dressed that morning lest anyone dare say?
“Oops, I forgot to put on my get involved Uniform Of The Day.”
