Uniform Traffic Code Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

Uniform Traffic Code

An urgent conference was held
At a parking lot
Subject was: Uniform Traffic Code
Bus presented the subject
And debate began
Car: "It is true that
She always gets priority"
Lorry: "this kind of partialism
Has been in our community since long"
Mini Bus: "there is no untouchable here,
But more often we feel isolated"
Pickup: Although we are in the working class,
We take strong exception at this inequality."
Van: "So why she gets more attention
And privileges are in the focus? "
Car: "yes, this conference is meant for that"
Minibus: "See, she has also ignored this meeting,
That clearly shows her hegemony"
Bulldozer: "My pressure is going up like anything"
Jeep put the top gear and intervened:
"She deserves to act the way now she does,
And no one is allowed
To take law and order in its hand"
Auto rickshaw: "Sir, I am smaller than you,
But I have to disagree with you, this is too much"
Jeep: "I am responsible for the law and order here"
Motorbike: "Sir, you blindly support her
That is why you are getting upset here"
Jeep got annoyed and told to Motor bike:
"I have noticed that you and bicycle
Often take the opportunities of gaps
Available at the red signals"
Bicycle was speechless
Jeep: "And finally, it is a clear message for all of you
That there is no Uniform Traffic Code for her.
She may even cross the red signals as part of duty"

Ambulance was still crossing the red signals
To save the human beings like ‘a nurse on the road',
Ignoring the allegations levelled on her
Or the farcical protest conducted at the parking lot.
