Unlike You Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Unlike You

Excuse me,
I apologize.
But I've been listening.
And I am a bit confused.

You say they are young, Black and beautiful.
While the others are tanned, lazy and incompetent.
Who do you refer to?
And why should they return back to Africa?

If everything was returned,
Wouldn't some folks be removed from their thrones?

Excuse me,
I apologize.
I've been listening...
And I am a bit confused.

'Don't be!
We were in discussion,
Of what was purchased on our visit to several countries.
Some stayed to lay on the beaches,
While the rest of us shopped around for quality.
I suggest you mind your business.
And see your way out of this conversation! '

Oh...
I've been to Paris, France.

'And we've just come from Rome!
So what?
But unlike you...
We don't do what the Romans do!
We haven't cut anyone's nose off to spite their faces.'
