Unrestricted Entry Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Unrestricted Entry

Blooming into a state of full lunacy,
Is a permitted poisoning of sanity to distort.
And selected to present their version of reality,
Are those elected to endure...
Effective to accept,
Spreading of a dumbdownness to infest.
Manifested to digest.
No one can refuse or object to it.
Or protect a consciousness if wished and dared.
Leaving the ones,
Still remaining brave...
Hoping those with their minds drugged up,
Have not been assigned to find...
Anyone determined to display a mind,
Independently thinking and intelligent enough.
Attempting to smuggle thoughts of common sense.
Across borders.
Where only ignorance is allowed,
Unrestricted entry.

"Uh...YOU!
Yes. You...with the book.
Hand it over.
Hmmm...
There is nothing but doodles here.
Page after page.
Oodles and oodles of nothing but doodles.
You had me fooled.
I thought you to be intelligent.
But...
Apparently not.
That goes to prove,
No one should judge a book by its cover.
You are free to go."
