' Use To Walk Everywhere' Poem by Linda Winchell

' Use To Walk Everywhere'

Rating: 3.0

I remember when we use to walk everywhere!
Driving back then, was never really an option!
To school, to church, to the grocery store
And on the way I remember, while skipping and hoppin!

Now I'm lucky to get up, to even answer the phone!
Have a remote control, to change the channels on T.V.!
Then we all wonder why, we're all out of shape!
I know this sitting, is taking a toll on me!

And it was all done, in the name of progress!
Progress? Well it shouldn't look like this!
Most American's, are now overweight!
Sitting in chairs, their butts JUST fit!

Now I wonder what would happen?
If we were all, maybe to walk a mile a day?
I guarantee, we'd look a lot different!
In a more slimmed down, much healthier way!

Why wait until New Years Eve?
To make those resolutions, you know you'll never keep?
Just get up and walk a mile a day!
Get up off your backsides!
and use those things we all call our feet!

This is a very good poem of wise advice. I try to walk to Save A Lot just 6 blocks away when I can, but if th snow is too deep on the sidewalk, I have to take the bus we call Dial A Ride. But if the sidewlaks are clear, I can walk there and back...with the help of a walker, but I can walk that mile (round trip) . I agree that too many of us are very overweight, and with my heart problems that is not very good for me. Thank you sis for sharing this poem filled with great advice. Love & hugs, Barbara

This is funny but also good advice. I sit in front of my computer for hours reading and writing poems, though perhaps that's better than watching T.V. I'm afraid that when I go for a walk, elderly ladies overtake me! Best wishes, Robert.
