Venerated At Times In Sync Poem by Mark Heathcote

Venerated At Times In Sync

I need a panic room.
A bolthole when it all goes wrong
Call me a pessimist.
If it makes you feel strong

I am just a woman,
He is just a man frightened of this flora and fauna.
Empty war fields waiting for corn poppies to flourish and yield
Once again, on the back of the earth in the dark.

Oh, I am just a woman,
I need a gentle smile that doesn't cost the world.
Oh, he is just a man,
He needs a small vacant plot.
To grow a rose with traces of black-spot
Even though it still blossoms, it suffers not to rot.

I need a panic room.
A bolthole when it all goes wrong
Call me a pessimist.
If it makes you feel strong
But I don't want to break this bond.

I am just a woman,
He is just a man, and together
It's a declaration of war and peace, venerated at times in sync.
