Village Square Dance Poem by Dr Anthony Onoja

Village Square Dance

Come let us dance erratic to wild drums of Ogrinya
Listen as we bring Idoma to their door steps
Great were the sooty voices bolstering our songs
Okpokwu stood so tall to welcome our heroes
With drum sound and beatings of the tides
To whom should we dance our song of prey?
When the village assemble in Obodo to our cheers
Deliberating the course of linage in our wake
Tell them we are Idomas and came from the stars
The uniqueness of our folklore
told with fury yet signifies our past
Hunting in pack naked
to the harsh sun of the Savannah
flames that ascend the column of this wild
Grip by our love for the alluvial heritage
There we dance to celebrate our bolstering yam
Idoma the home of forest deer
abound our culture in the stakes
Never to beat the drums of lonely paths
We fall, we rise, we stand, we never walk alone

A great poetic message that highlights the people's dance to the sound of the drum under the scorching sun. A great poem. Congratulations on POD. : -)
