Walk Like An Indian Poem by Barbara Villabol

Walk Like An Indian

Walk like an Indian
Quietly, no silently
I am behind you

Not to startle
But to stand in companionable silence

In your presence
I am in heightened awareness
As a doe peering from behind a tall tree

I am enlivened
I am uniquely female to your maleness

In a shadowed moment
I remember past loves
I smile knowing what I bring to you today

Light through the forest canopy
Dappled with dark patches
Falls on us

You touch a sunny spot on my cheek
We lay together upon the leafy forest floor.
