Want My Advice? - Poem by Hasan Ali

Ah friend! Never fall in love. I speak from experience, I tried it
If Lethe does indeed exist can someone -
tell me please where I might find it?

Ah friend! Heed this warning of mine!
For to know of love's evils and still
make the tragic mistake,
is by any means a crime

But wait,

In a sense, I suppose I tell a lie,
there's something consoling in
nursing your heart and letting opportunities pass you by

If I'm honest I want you to play the game and fail,
So though I'll be heart broken I shan't be lonely
For you and I will spend our years sharing our miserable tales

And you'll tell me how poisonous love is and I shall say I agree
So help me friend, fall in and out of love
and transform this poem from what it is: a mindless elegy
