Warnings Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Warnings

As warnings continue,
To be made to pay attention to them.
Whether in graphic illustrations.
Displayed where and when,
They will come.
With time given to prepare.
There are still many,
Who perceive...
Remaining resiliently ignorant.
Is an excuse to later say,
Warnings they choose to not obey.
Since some warnings are meant for others.
And...
Their expectations to be rescued,
Have never before...
Prevented them to endure,
Through whatever to them comes.
Because the warnings were not specific.
Nor were they addressed,
To them in detail.
Regardless how severe or life threatening.

"Oh.
So...
You rely on your faith?
To protect you and keep you safe? "

-Are you kidding?
We have our guns and good luck charms.
And besides...
All of our neighbors,
Are well prepared...
For anyone who dares,
To come near our property.
We are both law abiding, tax paying citizens.
All of us.
Up here in the hills.
And living deep in the woods.-

"But...uh,
This event...
Is a Mother Nature creation."

-Mother who?
Let me tell you something,
My 'mother' created Moonshine.
And if that didn't kill us,
Nothing else will.-

"You joking, right? "

-You wanna taste?
We save bottles of it.
Just for times like these.-

United.
In the state of denial.
