We Need Hope, Not Dope Poem by Hebert Logerie

We Need Hope, Not Dope

We need to dream about a better tomorrow,
We need to touch the star, to reach our goal,
We need to nourish the body and the soul,
We need to be swim in happiness, not in sorrow.

A comprehensive education is what the doctor orders
For everyone: whites, non-whites and beggars.
A truly educated individual always fights against racism,
Unfairness, intolerance, bigotry, ignorance and any ism
That promotes hates, separatism and other ills in our society.

We need to strive for equality, decency and true liberty.
Freedom is the soul of progress and advancement.
We need to help and devote more time to our children.
We want them to succeed in life; we want to create a haven
For them, so they can flourish in all seasons,
So they will not end up in some inhumane prisons.

We need to dream about a better paying job.
We need fairness in employment; we tired of being robbed,
In our paychecks, some people get compensated more,
Because society claims that they have the right skin color.
We need to be more sensitive of our surrounding,
Life is difficult enough; do not make it more excruciating.

We need hope
Not dope
We want good reason
Better education
No more prison
Not more poison
For our brain.

We want to be sane
Not insane.
We want hope
Not dope.
