What Happened To My Honduras? Poem by Ana Z. M.

What Happened To My Honduras?

Rating: 5.0

A boy in his bycicle comes to my house,
the sound of my newspaper hitting my sidewalk wakes me up.
What will be in the news today?
Any good news? Maybe a Surprise.

I sit down at my kitchen table,
my Kellog's cereal on hand,
I open my newspaper,
suddenly I'm not hungry anymore.

Fron't page,
''Murdered Father And Three Kids Left Alone''
What is this?
Is this my Honduras?

So afraid to walk to the next street,
to visit my friend Daniela and have fun.
Fourteen years of age,
not knowing If I'll get to have a new day.

Killers and robbers,
all spread throughout my country,
Nothing is safe in here,
What happened to you, my Honduras?

''Two Year Old Baby Died Of Hunger''
Bad news again,
When is this going to end?
What happened to you my Honduras?

People dying of hunger,
starving and thirsty,
not having a penny,
while the goverment enjoys our stolen money.

Increases of taxes,
with the excuse of having new projects.
People in bargain,
while others count their last cents.

Dear Mr. President,
have you come to see this,
Have you ever read the news?
Did you ever take a walk on the sidewalk,
and see your ''beautiful'' Honduras.

I'm sick of it,
I don't want more people dying,
I've lost my friend for that stupid murderer,
who's confession was ''I just wanted to see someone die''

I wanna go away!
What happened to my beautiful Honduras?
But i'll ever ask myself,
Is this the only place?

It is very sad. Beautifully written. Yes there are a lot more places like Honduras Ana. Lets pray and hope for sanity of our leaders so they can become less greedy and more responsible.10/10
