What Is A Goodbye? Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

It is a baleful finality
Of requited separation,
That gives birth to the potency
Of silenced communication.

Goodbye's a door, a mask, a flight
Shuts out conveniently
Deafens ears and eyes from sight
As thoughts blank ruefully.

Goodbye says all - a moment's release -
An imprecation marks the end,
Remnants of the bond will cease,
A sentenced knelled on a one-time friend.

Yet goodbye accords freedom and ease
Unburdens one from needless weight,
A breath of lenitive air and bliss-
Sometimes leaving is the best of fate.
