What Is My Sickness? (Part 2) Poem by Spock the Vegan

What Is My Sickness? (Part 2)

Headaches came back and won't go away.
I went to the emergency room that day.

CT scan showed pools of blood in my brains.
That was the reason for my pains.
Ambulance took me to a better place.
No siren used, it wasn't a race.
They drilled some holes and put in drains.

I tried to get up before I was awake.
Several people holding me down it did take.
Vision returned and catheter found.
I relaxed and made no sound.

Nurse asked me, 'When did you fall? '
But there was no time at all.
They asked me about banging my head.
On the truck doorframe 2 months ago, I said.
They said the aspirin I took was why it bled.

Two days later they sent me home
with lotion, toothpaste, a brush and a comb,
and seizure medicine as a precaution.
I thank the Lord I am not in a coffin.

Instructions said no blood thinners could be taken,
So take acetaminophen if your head starts achin'.
That didn't work so back to the emergency room.
Another scan and narcotics when headaches loom.

You have captured the horror of illness so well. Without being sentimental you convey to the reader the suffering n helplessness of a patient. Since its based on personal experience, i wish u good health.

Thanks, Kelly. The headaches certainly did affect my ability for a few weeks now. Hopefully I won't need the drugs much longer.
