What Is Pleasure? Poem by Liza Sud

What Is Pleasure?

What is pleasure? - when one is giving,
and the other receives a gift.
But from both sides should be feeling
that the both sides are pleased.

That's the point of humility,
that's tha token of righteousnes.
You say: God is right in giving.
You say: God is right anyway.

***
Наслажденье: один - дающий,
а другой получает дар.
у обоих должно быть чувство,
что их радует эта связь.

в этом есть цель смиренья,
праведности залог.
Говоришь: Бог был прав в дареньи!
или: Бог прав всегда во всем!

I sense in your definition pleasure is a mutually satisfying exchange that bonds two persons: It is that bond which persists when the moment of pleasure is over. Like so much of our human existence, experience has two dimensions, one is intense and transient, the other subtle but lasting. This is the experience of Music. We both love Mahler's 9th Symphony - we enjoy the 90 minutes of hearing a performance, but we carry the vivid memory of the music in our hearts always. Everything in the soul or heart enters the interior through one or more of the senses. Poets and philosophers, saints and sinners can agree on that point.
