What Is The Problem? Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

What Is The Problem?

Messages that resonate with some,
And not others pretending not to comprehend them.
Are meant to incite,
A continual presence of division.
Until it is admitted,
A system that is structurally racist.
Biased and bigoted.
Has benefitted those who perceive themselves,
As creators of the Universe.
And have inflicted upon all to find,
Images that represent a God to worship.
That reflects who among the masses,
Are the chosen.
What's the problem?
What's to be discussed?
Everybody wants to be accepted,
For who they are.
By those wishing they were not mongrels.
Or wishing they were of another race.
Wanting to be understood,
Why their self hatred...
Has to be thrown up in someone else's face.
To demand an acknowledgement,
Of wanting to feel superior.
Why is this necessary?
When most everyone claims to have faith.
A faith in one God no one sees.
But believes speaks through burning bushes.
Turns water into wine.
Parts the sea to enable folks to cross,
Miles on dry land.
Has a son who rose miraculously from the dead.
Pictures of aliens with wings painted.
Upon ceilings of their most sacred of places.
Thousands visit to see clearly.
But told in these same places where they pray,
Not to believe in 'false' gods...
Surrounding them.
And everyday practice hypocrisy.
What is the problem,
That one's religious belief...
And skin color has caused.
When everyone has been created,
From one Earth that gave them birth!
Which fools are whose fools,
To be tricked and fooled to stay that way.
Whose eyes are so blind,
To keep their backs turned away from facts.
