What We Thought And Who We Were

What we thought
And who we were
How is It that it gets so blurred
Time and anguish wear us down
Who so in childhood wore a pearly crown
till we are figments of ourselves
Stick figures on a dim green board
Chalked in, susceptible to random erasure.
With coloured chalks take up again
The jump rope rhymes that we knew then
Or laugh and play at memory's gate
While for the new Heaven we fondly wait.
