When Honor Came To Me Poem by Reva Kern

When Honor Came To Me

When honor came to me
From the generous land
I did not think in White or in Rose
Nor the big favor

I thought of the poor gunner
Who is in the tomb, silent
I thought of my father, the soldier
I thought of my father, the laborer

When it arrived, pompously
The letter, in its noble envelope
I thought of the deserted tomb
I did not think in White nor in Rose.
