When Politicians Hit Titanic Rocks Poem by Terence George Craddock

When Politicians Hit Titanic Rocks

we have been told many times
about the hubris of politics politicians
especially important leading politicians

the arrogance
the overconfidence
the over estimation

of their abilities
it was George Bernard Shaw
who wrote a famous quotation

''He knows nothing; and he thinks
he knows everything. That points
clearly to a political career.''

like the Captain of the Titanic
the desire the need to be first
the fastest to make their party line

the White Star Line stand out
to be the first most important
the most famous to rule to dominate

can mean steaming full speed ahead
into a known iceberg field thinking
their ship their party policy is unsinkable

until the moment fatal
when they strike an iceberg
suffer excessive unsustainable

sinkable damage
even then denial
the refusal

to accept
the responsibility
of an immanent

impending disaster means
an SOS to save our souls is
delayed too long sent out

to late
the cost
in lives

when the captain party leaders
sink their ship is devastating
body corpus unsinkable is sunk

it was decades ago once said
that the IQ of politicians suited
them either to career politics

or making weaving baskets
because the level of leadership
displayed by politicians in crisis

is sometimes like the intellectually
handicapped except the intellectually
challenged were more dependable

reliable and could be trusted
to make beautifully crafted baskets
it is safer when said politicians

make baskets it does not cause
disasters for the people for the nation
and the Unsinkable Molly Brown

can be depended on like many citizens
of character to take better charge
of a lifeboat than a crew member not

properly trained
for the job or up
to the task in crisis
