When The Ships Have Sailed Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

When The Ships Have Sailed

Rating: 3.0

Oh!
When all the ships
Have sailed and
The last hand waves
Are distant shadows,
What shall we do...

When their voices
Are only echoes and
We try to recall those
Last words of good-bye,
Which words will we
Remember?

The silhouettes of smiles
Have faded into yesterdays,
Time drifting into nigh...
Why must this be
We belonged together...
No, I agree, you were not weak
Just impatient...

Your ship has sailed,
I can no longer hold on to your kiss,
Recall the sweet sound of your
Plea for me...
My arms, now empty, wave
As you sail away with the rest
Of those who promised to stay.
