Whenever The Clouds Of Pain And Sadness Loomed, - Poem by Javed Akhtar

Whenever the clouds of pain and sadness loomed,
Whenever tears came till the eyelashes,
Whenever this lonely heart got scared,
I told my heart, Oh Heart, why do you cry?
This is what happens in this world…

This deep silence…the world has distributed it to everyone,
Some sadness is a part of everyone's life,
Some sunshine is a part of everyone's life,
Your eyes are wet without any reason,
Every second is a new season,
Why do you let go of such priceless moments?
Oh Heart, why do you cry?

Having heard so many of his songs in Hindi I can definitely say translation doesn’t even come close to original. Ph should try to put some in Hindi. (Report) Reply

The character of Hindi and Urdu poetry is vastly different from English poetry. The kind of concepts, poetic run, and construction are quite different. What sounds very beautiful in Hindi doesn't sound so in English. (Report) Reply

translated poetry loses its original sheen,
    stability
    we all hanker for love
    in its nascent form

hope you shall dwell a bit more
    and say

what life makes one remain silent
as another laughs his life away

    o great poet do say

'' I told my heart, Oh Heart, why do you cry?

'Ho detto al mio cuore, O Cuore, perché piangi?
    [..]
Questo profondo silenzio.. il mondo lo ha distribuito ad ognuno, '

It is the nature of the heart to cry
Just as much to in joy rejoice
And the intellect mute spectator is
As emotions often take you for a ride......
