Where Is The Benefit Given Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Where Is The Benefit Given

There is no vegetation,
And the water they bathe
And drink is muddied!
Their plight is one of complete,
And total devastation.
Televised images of their malnutrition,
Is broadcast continually.
It is a sight that tugs at the heart strings!
Millions have been donated and sent.
And yet...
Their teeth are beautiful!
And their skin is flawless.
They have no body odor.
Our children?
Teeth are rotting.
They have blemishes everywhere.
Even with the availability of water, soap
And hygiene classes...
They smell like hell!
With some of the most foul language,
Coming out of their mouths.
And...
Let's face it.
Their diets aren't the best either.
Not only is something wrong with this picture...
What are we teaching?
And to whom?
Why?
And where is the benefit given...
That is being pocketed!
