White Dove's Peak Poem by Janine Ecks

White Dove's Peak

As one day I mourned my faraway love
And questioned the powers that be,
I looked off and saw a jagged cliff;
Beyond it, the deep blue sea.

The sea was turbulent, nearly black.
Its cauldron spit foam to the skies,
Amid which flew a lone white dove
That belted out longing cries.

Look back to the cliff with its one high peak -
Built atop it, a lonely nest...
A grey lady dove peers this way and that
And flutters with great unrest.

Follow her gaze to the grace of the white
As he glides through the storm from afar.
He's flying home now, bringing back food
To the nest where she and their eggs are.

It brought me back to a finer day,
A memory of glowing embers.
These tumultuous times we're wallowing through
Cannot mar the love we remember.

So if you're ever lost, my love,
There is no need to wander.
I won't be so far as a white dove's peak
Above the deep sea yonder.
