Who Am I? Poem by M.J. Lemon

Who Am I?

Rating: 5.0

I'd say late middle aged
and ready to retire
well almost soon enough

I still have grade school friends
who remind me of days
spent on childish errands

I'm not my current work
and never saw myself
a job personified

I'll only have one love
one great love forever
anchoring me on earth

You used to say baby
too much and now rarely
so that something's missing

you're younger than you think
and far more active than
many born years later

You can play most team sports
but should probably keep
to maybe just baseball

you can be loud and so
stubborn that reason fails
sacrificed on pretense

He spends too many days
with the classics the books
cars that don't enrich life

He obsesses too much
over work deadlines and
details that mean nothing

He needs reminding not
to turn walks in the park
into stressful hill climbs

He has such abundance
so much good around him
he really should say thanks

I answer from the first, second and third person perspectives. This poem is inspired by and a challenge response to fellow poet Susan Williams' Who am I? Who are you?
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

On reading this poem again I feel this is one of the best poems you have written.....! A three dimensional view into yourself...! Altogether it gives a comprehensive view into your likes and dislikes..... into your rounded personality...! Agree completely with the concluding lines. You have such abundance, so much good around you and should be thankful!

Thank you so very much, Valsa. So much appreciated. As with so much, this poem may be a work in progress. In a decade, it may be time to add, revise, update....Thank you again.

Thats a great challenged respond outcome, the perspectives are broad and enough for you to understand who he is' from different eyes of view, including yourself...whatever you are....as long as you feel what people and you think, you can be better you as you are, as your own version that you comfortable to be and happy...because everyone deserves to have great life as himself/herself with no one excluded.

Soul, thank you so very much. And yes, agreed, being aware of others is crucial.

Well, when I first read this poem, I had to double check the author. And sure enough, it was M.J. Lemon. Another side of the profound poet. But it didn't surprise me all that much! We've had the privilege of seeing the different facets of your personality. The professor. The comedian. The sentimentalist. Well, you get the drift. As always, you've done an admirable job! Kudos! Hope to see this one as Poem Of The Day!

This poem resonated with me as when my mind is troubled during my morning walks the uphill bit is a real workout...and perhaps that is for the better. I too, have much to be thankful for.

And after the brief rest following a workout, the greater of life's workouts somehow seem more manageable. I appreciate your words, Simone.
