Who's There? Poem by Payal Lalwani

Who's There?

Rating: 5.0

Who is it?
That one in the shadowy reflection.
A hint here, a drop there-
Thought it's you.

Who is it?
Sometimes I'm almost there -
Still it eludes like a
like a snatch of melody.
Maybe it's you, you, you.

Who is it?
One echoes-
How true, how it never ever soothes-
Surely it must be you!

It's me, me, me.
I see myself in a smile
or is it a cry?
I find myself a moment
next it just disappears.

Me, me and me
I keep on foraging
Why my soul is still hungry.
bereft of all that is good.

Let me ask -
Who' there?
Wait, wait, wait
For the ring of truth.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I guess what inspired me was the changing face of relations today. In order to appease all and sundry we lose the thing precious of all - satisfaction. You question yourself-why? For what? Lack of answers brings forth the futility of all efforts.Reminds me of some lines written by a famous English poet- -

'Surprised by joy, I turned to share my glee with thee
Alas! Nothing but the wind greeted me.'(not the exact words)
