Will You Remember Me? Poem by Timber Koleden

Will You Remember Me?

Do you remember me?
I was the husband who left his wife
When duty called I laid down my life
Because I loved her more than life itself

Do you remember me?
I was the father who left his child
When tyranny reigned I fought in the wilds
Because I wanted to see him again

Do you remember me?
I was the brother who left his sister
As my plane went down how I missed her!
I only wanted her to be safe and sound

Do you remember me?
I was the son who left his mother
To bring freedom to the slaves who hungered
Because that's the man you raised to be

Do you remember me?
I was the fiancé who missed his fiancée
I died in the trenches on the darkest of days
Because you were the light I loved

Do you remember me?
I am the student who left his study
And died in marshes cold and bloody
Because heroes aren't only to be found in books

Do you remember me?
I am the nurse who left her brother
And was shot by the brother of another
Because I cared enough to heal

Will you remember me?
I am the soul of the fallen watchers
Those who stood over you as you slept—protecters
And now we are dead and gone

Will you remember me?

Will You Remember Me?
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Dear friends, today we remember the sacrifice of those who have died for the people who they loved. The noble fathers and brothers who left behind everything for the sake of defending what they loved most and setting the prisoners free. How can we weigh the cost of their lives? How many have died in the darkness alone? May we this day thank God for their sacrifice. Lest we forget.
