Winds Of Winter Poem by Kevin Patrick

Winds Of Winter

Rating: 5.0

Winters winds chime ancestral wails
and glide auretic melodies
That swail the earth in whitewash gales
And cling the foam of memories
In hearts that dwell with icy peace

It whispers through my windowpane
swaying majestic barren tides
That call from realms no mortal sang
And bring with it the halls of time
The choir of the Arctic Sirens

It is the sound of ghost in thunder
cry in legions of one voice
And though it wraiths leave me asunder
It echoes in a willowing hoist
A bittersweet snows cape paradise

Hear its spell succumb my ether
Into its ancient symphony
And though my bones its cold will wither
It warms my north-man blood to sleep
I will dance its eternal cacophony

I live in Minnesota (in the southern part) so I can fully appreciate this poem which celebrates (I think that's the right word) the ARCTIC SIRENS of the winds. For the past two days they've been howling outside my apartment creating almost exactly the situation of your poem. The movement of your poem seem to come to rest in a place identified as A BITTERSWEET SNOWS CAPE PARADISE. I reminded of one of Hart Crane's VOYAGES which also comes to rest in the northland in the phrase THE SEAL'S WIDE SPINDRIFT GAZE TOWARD PARADISE. But your poem has one last action which strikes me as particularly brave I WILL DANCE (THE WIND'S) CAUCOPHANY. This will surely be a shamanic dance of union with those winds.
