Winter's New Hat Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Winter's New Hat

I had been stung by a spider, on my
bottom, to put it politely, during the night,
while I was asleep.
I was so lost in my own world that I
did not turn the television or the radio on
so had no notice about the weather and that winter
had a new chapeau.
It was tossed with flair, high in the air,
Like a scene from the Mary Tyler Moore show.
Winter's smile was wide and had become a day that would
Make summer wonder how it happened.
Winter Was wearing summer's favorite dress, sprinkled
With sun and fluffy clouds while pine tops danced.
Spring tugged at winter's curtain, trying to warn
Against stealing her warmth and daffodils to no avail.

Now with the 'sting' tended, I have exchanged winter's wool hat for
a most fascinating 'Fascinator', feather's light and airy,
dancing on my head to the beat of soft winter winds
and temperature of eighty degree with no care that a storm
is pending for late in the evening.
Ah!
