Winter Solstice 2018 I Date My Wife Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Under the blue sky with laces of pink clouds
And behind green canopies of a pine grove
Rising sun sits on the ridge of my neighbor's roofs.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
I watch from behind my house window where I sit.
A squirrel sits and enjoys its happy time
On a bough of a barren tree nearby.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Vast corn fields were already harvested.
Near the edge of one bare field with corn stumps
A deer stands with its bewildered look.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Outside cats already had their breakfast.
While some cats rest in the sun to bask
Others jump over pool fence to play in the yard.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Pool water appears shiny like a mirror
Where trees cast their shadows during daytime
Round moon sinks to its bottom at night*.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
Blue Jays gather at the far corner of my yard.
They are in the hurry to search for their breakfast
So they don't have time to sing or play.

Today is the Winter Solstice.
I drive my wife for a chore date.
We stop by at several places
And finally we eat lunch at Phở La Vie.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông
Trời xanh gợn mây hồng
Sau vườn thông xanh lá
Mặt trời, mái nhà ôm.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông
Sau cửa sổ tôi ngồi.
Trên cành cây trơ lá
Sóc ngồi cành nhởn nhơ.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông
Đồng bắp gặt, mênh mông.
Bên cánh đồng trơ gốc
Nai đứng nhìn bâng quơ.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông
Mèo ăn sáng lâu rồi
Con thì nằm hong nắng
Con nhảy rào, chạy rong.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông.
Hồ bơi láng như gương
Ngày, cây soi bóng nắng
Đêm, đáy hồ trăng soi*.

Hôm nay trời vào Đông
Blue Jay tụ góc vườn
Chim vội vàng ăn sáng
Không đủ giờ hót, chơi.

Tôi chở vợ đi chơi
Ghé tiệm vài ba chỗ
