Wishes Poem by Jerry Pike

Wishes

Minuets of dancing wishes, lap by circled lap inside,
tripping up where promise caught them, facing down into the tide,
robbed of some folks lust for living, sketched in carbon dating dust, rubbed the green for extra promise, solvent leaves a wanton rust.

Written neat in books of heartbeat, lodged between today and then,
stuck fast in a future sunshine, stealing yesterday’s again,
floating lightly through the breeze is every possible delight,
think it, draw it, write it, feel it, pin its beauty to the night.

Propagate and water daily, till it, weed it, give it room,
make the flower of your desires, conjure magic from it’s bloom,
nurture each and every second, live as if each wish came true,
get involved for hope has courage, dig your victory anew.

When those voices try to slow you, pull you back and spoil your zest, block them out with every muscle, conquer with a giant’s quest,
pat your back, successes lift you, never dare to watch the floor,
head up high into forever, step with confidence once more.
