After the war
Came another battle
So where were you
When I was born
And where were you
When I stumbled and walked
And where were you
When I stuttered and spoke
And where were you
When I started school
And where were you
When I passed my exams
And where were you
When I graduated
The answers never changed
It was always prearranged
You were always in the pub
I wasn't even a sub
You always chose drink
As an alternative to me
So maybe this poem
Will stop and make you think
About the events you missed
And all the times
You could have been loved and kissed
Instead of being a sad pub dad.
1 - two years gone by and i'll use this in April's showcase, AND i'll throw in your helpful Poet's Notes. thanks. bri :) i wonder if Rajnish read your PN. people don't always do what they (exactly) WANT to do. did this happen to you, Tom, with your father? (cont.)
to my/our July 2017's 'showcase of and for PH poets'. thanks, Tom. bri :)
the first time i read were where [instead of where were] i thought it was a typo. then i kept seeing it. and You was always in the pub, with was instead of were, caught my attention. did they/it catch anyone else's? is the writing intentional, British, or.............am i hallucinating! ? hee-hee. ;) i'm NOT assuming (as i and others sometimes do) that this poem is a true account of the author's experience. if it is, he has my condolences. Light Verse about a heavy subject! ! ! bri :) to MyPoemList........i think.
A poignant narrative about the growth of a young man told since his childhood. The sordid fact remains that his father preferred drinking more than anything else. Thanks for sharing. All the Best, Tom Allport.

I would like to translate this poem
(cont.) 2 - now see you apparently took my earlier grammar suggestions, though " was" instead of " were" i've heard from at least one American coworker, years ago. bri " ;) and 2 years ago i suggested " were" for " was" .
