You Cannot Kill The Light Poem by Mohammad Younus

You Cannot Kill The Light

You cannot kill the light,
By merely drawing the blinds;
My heart is shackled,
By chains of light,
Bound to the eternal flame—
I cannot stay in the dark.
It immerses me into itself,
Heals my fragmented soul.

Beneath the river of light,
The way back home is found—
We could journey there below,
Into the depths, unseen,
No one knows where we'll go,
Down into the endless stream.

Please, do not withhold the light,
Do not let me walk in darkness,
Leave me in the light,
With no warning sign,
I long to burn away,
Light meeting light,
Till all that's left is one.
