You Don't Have To Go To The Gunfight Poem by Dorsey Baker

You Don't Have To Go To The Gunfight

You don't have to be
The intended target
To become a victim
Of the violence
You can be in your home
Thinking
That you are safe
Riding in your car
Walking upon a
Very busy street
Be a bystander
Standing in
A big crowd of people
You don't have to go
To the gunfight
Sometimes it will just
Come to you

You don't have to be
In a war zone
For a big bomb
To fall on you
It's the new normal
The world has become
A very dangerous place
And it don't look good
For the human race!
Big guns with big bullets
Don't miss a lot
You don't have to go
To a gunfight
To get shot!
You don't have to
Go to the gunfight
Sometimes
It will just
Come to you
