You Glow in Me

I can't express, can't visualize the shape
And colours of my feelings, touch the words
To make to you a call, a strong appeal. The more
I know you, there is more to understand
The closer that you come to me, the further off
The search-lights of your heart, your little hand.

There's nothing that you own me, nor in any
Of the gifts you share is there a need.
I'm thankful, how you show me of myself
How you evolve me, beyond shame, in every glint
Of sweetness, of your scent and skin perfume
Glowing in my soul, as if to burst in flame.

I do not let it waste, and yet
The more your kindness is, more hungry I become
For your abundance, yes, even for pain, the taste
Of you in flesh upon my tongue. I can't forget
The times you seeded me with poem and song -
Ecstatic visions of the far divine.

It's best to keep it light, to have our fun
To fill the loneliness of night, with shared insight
To play our naked game, recovering to face
Reality, as we travel in dream. So fool I am
For weaving hopes so serious, beyond the solid lines
Of making love so mighty and delirious

When we may not entwine, caress the hours of dawn
No right to fill the spaces by your side, although I may
Send flowers for the comfort of your mind
I cannot dull the magic that you shower on me.
I have no place to run inside or hide,
No way to keep from rising up to you, inspired.

You live alone, the gardens left behind, the birds
Your eyes observe when you awake, the children
Rung out by your calls. The work and penance
That you do in shyness hint of servitude,
The restless shadow and the point of light, your need
Of flight and validation, brave in appetite

For quiet inland places, where the chains dissolve
The hilltop shrines at sunset, the papaya trees
Hide tides of morning, faces so well worn
The festivals and families, the sorrow of the seas
The shores I long for, shores you long to leave
To take hold of your freedom, and return in peace.
