You Hand Out The Rules; Poem by Tiffani Williams

You Hand Out The Rules;

and i sacrifice my rights, my privileges
because anything's better than losing you
as a result, i build my life,
only big enough for you and me
and a whole lot of loneliness
if you step out for a second
i become engulfed
by what i no longer have,
no longer do,

you never give up for me
all the things i gave up for you
not fully
not without letting me know
how much it hurts
when you almost let go
of me and all my lost privileges
that's shattered me

but better you hold the pieces than I,
cause i've already lost myself
and i have no one left to help me recollect it.

you break every rule that i follow
and i break myself
without finding myself

and you take the pieces
and you tell them what to do
and i listen because

i'm only me when i'm with you.
