You Think That For A Time You Can Put Our Marriage On Hold

Free from the nightly gambol and drinking of the neighbours
it's from Petersfield extension one that I drive away,
almost as if for that Jericho the shofars are already blowing
and you think that for a time you can put our marriage on hold,
when from the incinerated veldt the call of plovers cut through me,
children with a quad-bike drive down the street
and with what sincere love truly is I remain stupid,
without knowing how you could love me and want to stay alone,
it's from Petersfield extension one I that drive away,

[Poet's note: The plovers are in disarray about their nests and chicks that have been burned to ashes.]
