Young George Poem by Francis Duggan

Young George

George the young man from England is homesick in Geelong
For the beautiful city of Birmingham the home of football and song
Six months ago he came to Australia for work and adventure but he grows more homesick as the days go by
He will return to old Birmingham where rain clouds often darken the sky.

He misses the games of pool with his mates at the Local he misses watching Birmingham play
He will return for to live in England and in England he will grow old and gray
The Australian Summer for him too humid and warm where he came from is more damp and cool
A teenager he's only nineteen two years out of secondary school

He will return to his bethroted in England a brown eyed one with light brown hair
A year younger than him she is eighteen a young woman of beauty rare
They will marry and hopefully have children his soul mate as well as his wife
Even in absence their love it has blossomed and their commitment is for life.

Homesick for England and lovesick for his girl friend young George thoughts from here far away
He will return to his mother Country of England when gardens are blooming in May
He has seen some of the bigger World out there and he does not yearn for wealth and renown
He pines for his sweet-heart in Birmingham and he feels homesick for his old Hometown.
