You're Not Helping Poem by Randy McClave

You're Not Helping

You don't give a drug addict drugs in the form of pills
You don't want to give them narcotic thrills,
And you should not want to give it to them by a needle either
Or by sniffing it or smoking it neither.
It causes evil desires and sometimes irreversible harm,
You could be the one giving them that ending shot in the arm.

You don't give an alcoholic booze to drink
So, into a deeper depression they will slide into and then sink,
Alcohol is not a spiritual release or a temporary escape
It's just an excuse and red tape.
That's factual truth which you or no one can ever debunk,
Do you want it to be because of you that they get drunk.

You don't give a hungry person a cigarette to smoke
You don't give a diabetic a Pepsi or a Coke,
What you are uncaringly giving to them is something that will kill
And all they see is a temporary excitement and a thrill.
Giving them sugar or tobacco is not the answer,
If you do it's as if you're wanting them to have diabetes or cancer.

You should only give the addicted what they really truly need
Give them clothes to wear, ears to hear and food to feed,
The main course of your help is your love and your giving
You want them to be here tomorrow, healthy and living.
Remember, you want to help them and to prolong and better their life,
You don't want to be the cause to end it, or to cause it strife.
