It always is a benefit to learn from the masters. And from there swing into our inner flow to voice our true self.

Now and again it’s easy to get bogged down while reading and commenting on poems. Well, here I am; enjoyed these poems so much that it’s hard to leave this page.

'' In the waka of Saigyo, the renga of Sogi, the paintings of Sesshu and the tea ceremony of Rikyu, one fundamental principle runs through all arts: those who pursue art follow zôka, and have the four seasons as their companion. Everything they see is like a flower and everything they imagine is like the moon. If one sees no flower, he is the same as a barbarian; if one has no moon in mind, he is no different from the birds and the beasts. Go beyond the barbarians and depart from the animals; follow zôka and return to zôka. ''
    [Matsuo Basho]

    * zoka = the creative force of nature [a concept coming from the Chinese 'Dao' (the 'path') ] - zoka is not a deity

I never quite understood haiku until I started reading the works of Basho - now I am studying haiku - and it is quite enlightening - something very different than the poetry that I have often been accustomed to.
