‘The godown of knowledge
increases by distribution’..
What a lovely picture
the sages paint –
like a children’s story
of magic, of that world
that’s truer than you’d think –
A huge warehouse, busy
at the unloading bays,
with thousands of white-clad,
happy faces under the sign,
‘Knowledge Godown – Take
as Much as you can Manage’,
handing out to eager arms,
while in the office, email, telephones
are busy with the orders for despatch
to those in need who’re not so near;
and a glance over your shoulder
from the work station
shows the stock piling ever higher…
a lovely story… except that
that is how it is
in that world that children
just about recall
and sages know.
Really enjoyed this poem. Excellent ending with the two viewpoints, and I love the sign saying to take as much knowledge as you can manage. Should despatch be spelled dispatch?

This is so nice, Michael. I especially love the ending because I have long felt that young children have much knowledge that gets lost in the shuffle of growing up. Beautiful thought. Raynette
