You adore the idea of this thing called love,
Kisses and romance I'm just so sick of.
I believe love is an infection, something caught a virus,
Like your favorite flower, for instance like mine an iris,
Pretty in the ground, but after it’s picked will wilt and die,
Like love you adore the idea, but in the end you cry.
After infected with this horrible hallmark disease,
You'll smile but wait remember it's a temporary tease,
As soon as it settles it, it takes over and will spread,
When taken over you'll do things and lose your head.
You'll do things you never dreamt you'd do,
The wasted time and don't forget bills you'll accrue.
In the end you will sit there like that picked iris,
Heart wilted bank account drained nothing but a virus.

What an interesting, deceptively complex poem! Nicely written!
Your poem is rather cynical for one so young. You've obviously had a few disappointments in your life. I believe that it's important to see love as a verb, not a noun - something to do rather than fall in. Like your used of rhyming couplets. It's distinctive and works a treat. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Look at Love as a divine manifestation! Let us love all and serve all!
Hi Coreena! ! I simply adored this one. You have so much passion when you write. And to be so young.LOL I am honored..
well, dear lady with a passionate pen's fury writing wonderful poem full of melody at some point its true love is a poison ivy as I have taste it when my heart cried painfully when a love of mine loved someone like me for being enchanted to behold another love's beauty. thanks ad bes wishes, melvin
This might be a slightly too extreme view of love, in my opinion. Sometimes, that flower has no choice but to be picked, and after it is, it will not ever be the same. Still, a flower brings joy to the person it is given to. A flower can be pressed and retain its beauty for years to come. It has the potential to create things that will last longer than the flower itself. And remember, even if you pick an iris, the rest of the plant is still there, and will continue to flower for years to come, if it is taken care of. Just make sure that plant doesn't die on you, and you'll find a good gardener for it someday.
Just love the person the best way you can and every thing will be alright.......
Well if you think that love is all about spending money, then probably you will end up like that picked up iris... I believe there are so many things that can be shared and done together with your partner and you don't need to spend a penny for them... In a way I agree with you - love can be compared to a virus, but it is a truly wonderful thing, nothing to do with any infections... A' propos infections - take vitamin C plus zink and you'll beat everything right away Lol
