(1) Resist Poem by Uriah Hamilton

(1) Resist

I'm so painfully strained
as I try to resist
dialing your phone
or pronouncing your name.

Sometimes, it is better
to never see someone again
because, I know, I could never
hold anything against you!

I would never count
the men who had kissed you,
I would accept with any betrayal
for the sight of your eyes.

So many storms
have been gathering
in your acute absence,
I've already weathered and survived
more than I ever conceived possible.

Somewhere your smile in the sunlight
is making the existence of a man meaningful,
and I don't begrudge him.
