3 Red Lights Poem by Bill Smith

3 Red Lights

People in boxes
Feelings in plaid
Signals distorted
Questions relayed
Hope in a shower
Love in a storm
Fit the criteria
Or fail to conform
Games in the night
Tears through the day
Whirlpool emotions
Things you daren’t say
Stood at the crossroads
Treading on air
Blame someone else
When life isn’t fair
Spark to a flame
Wax seal on what’s yours
Creep through the cracks
Slide under doors
Whisper it softly
Shout it out loud
Hide in the shadows
What isn’t allowed
Beg steal or borrow
Secondhand dreams
Swim in deep oceans
Flounder in streams
Sign up for heartache
Open you heart
Juggle the numbers
Beware of the shark
Fireflies for lanterns
Beacons of light
Rocks by the lighthouse
Something ain’t right
Sugars a sweetner
Ladled from spoons
Salt poured on thickly
Rubs into wounds
Feel the pain
Pick at the scars
Trophies in vinegar
Pickled in jars
Sunshine in rays
Raindrops in cups
Snow melts like promises
Another door shuts
