A Balance In Time Poem by Ronald Strickland

A Balance In Time

I get lost in the space of my mind.
I travel to places back in time.

I have walked the tracks,
balanced on the rails,
skipped along on the crossties,
listened for the rumble of the coming train,
and watched as it rumbled by.

I walked the miles without shoes
burning my feet on the hot pavement.
For the life that was given to me,
I would never trade.

Like balance on the rail,
friendship is a wonderful balance,
and like skipping the crossties
stepping over what gave me pain.

I was listening for the rubble
of the great advice so many have given.

The burning without shoes
is a reminder of greater paths to take.

I love the life and the love
and friendship
and the balance of life and losing myself
in the space of my mind to recall what life has given me.
