This morning and so many mornings before
I wash my face to begin my day.
As I look into the mirror, I see the wrinkles
and hair that has turned gray.
I look into my eyes with a vision that has aged
looking back at me.
I close my eyes for a moment with thoughts
of all the wonderful years
that gave me the wrinkles and the gray.
I open my eyes to see myself,
as I look back into my eyes,
I am taken away.
I see myself in my childhood days,
laughing and playing
growing with love,
with thoughts of yesterday that put a smile on my face.
I look again at my wrinkles and gray,
my thoughts of now with the love in my life
that I enjoyed as I became wrinkled and gray.
Nice plaintive soliloquy on growing old and reflecting in the mirror upon one's past.
