A Darker Road. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

A Darker Road.

Rating: 5.0

So there I was strolling
Down a country corridor
Evening was approaching
Fireflies could just be seen
There was a ripple on the surface
Of the deepening ink blue lake
Birds of all dimensions
Were alighting in trees
For the shelter and the night
Frogs were tuning up
Waiting for the moon
For full song
I was in no hurry
I like a dark night
My skin was cooling down
My mind kind of drifting
I stop whilst my old breath
Rests, quietens and is less forced
——
Away in the distance
Are the lights of human gathering
Safety, warm walls, dwellings
At my front lies the forest
Tangled and fading into night
The question is which way to walk
The safety of the house
Or the safety of the darker road
That choice is easy
I should take the dark road
If only for awhile
If only for the comfort
If only for the safety..

A Darker Road.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I consider myself so fortunate to live close to the wilderness. I contemplate deeply these days getting closer.....

Good choice, Geoffrey. Better the devil you know and the jungle that we walk each day. Civilisation is not so civil these days.

John. You are right. Humanity scares me altogether more than mother nature. Cheers my friend. Geoffrey
