A Dialogue between M. Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I read a 3-line poem, Ezra Pound murdered Plato by M.J. Lemon
Who has said in his notes that he had originally planned
On writing a dialogue between the two, one a poet and critic, the accused
And the victim of the murder, Plato, a philosopher;

It is a difficult exercise and after having chosen Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile
And Agatha Christie's A Murder is announced
Where it is difficult to get any philosophical remark by the main characters
I thought aloud that Ezra Pound would have paid a pound to hear Plato,
A broad shouldered soul who could with his Theory of Forms and formation of "Republic"
Be said to represent the accurate reality that his ideas could fetch pounds and pounds of money;

A Murder is Announced is the book which my father had gotten for me
As my first adult detective story when I was in the 5th grade
I shall dwell on the other book, Death on the Nile, for the murdered victim in this book
Has every attribute and wealth but is murdered by people close to her
It is sad that she did not live to enjoy her wealth;

M. Hercule Poirot says: "You had everything.…………
You stretched out your hand, Madam,
And like the rich man in the Bible,
You took the poor man's one ewe lamb";

"Money can do a lot to ease one's path in life",
Said Miss Jane Marple;

"…….I mean the sequence of events is impossible"
Said M. Hercule Poirot;

Miss Jane Marple said: "But murder is not a game";

Hercule Poirot murmured softly underneath his breath in French:
"Life is futile
A little love
A little hate
And then hello
Life is short
A little hope
A little dream
And good evening";

Jane Marple wrote: "Delicious death"

Hercule Poirot said: "When the sun shines
You cannot see the moon
But when the sun is gone, ah when the sun is gone";

Jane Marple said: Cleverness isn't everything;

Hercule Poirot said: Its all in the little grey cells, mon ami;

Jane Marple knitted at a furious pace with a clickety clack of the knitting needles.
