A Dip In Ganges Is Dunk
To one of pure-hearted love
What more is ken of heaven?
To immune of pride's false move
All honour is next to none.
Where easy it is to swim
And harder nigh to get sunk,
To such purest of life-stream
A dip in Ganges is dunk.

This is translation of a muktak (a type of quatrain)in Gujarati by Prabhulal Dwivedi, transliteration of the original as under:
hŗdaynā shuddha premīne nigamnān jñyāna oćhān ćhe,
na paravā mānanī to ye badhān sanmāna oćhān ćhe,
tarī javun bahu sahelun ćhe, mushkil đūbavun jemān,
ai nirmal ras-saritāthīgangā snāna oćhān ćhe.

A scholarly poem..very much impressed...thank God! I don't know Gujarati....the way you have translated it itself is highly applaudable..why to waste time in comparing the two...thanks a lot for sharing this great work here..
I can understand what you say, yet, few translation can beat the original. You have to be true to the original poet's expression without deviating too much. However the translation has to be a poem, not a drab prose. This is the challenge. I have translated thousands of Sanskrit verses, and feel emboldened to attempt. But it is a hard drill. Thank you for your comments.
