A Dream Weaver's Journey Poem by Howard Kern

A Dream Weaver's Journey

Rating: 5.0

In the west strange things happen that we still can’t explain,
Medicine men are highly sought, yet have no medical degree to claim.
If you visit a Lakota Indian Shaman, bring a translator and tobacco,
toll for a Spirit Journey, his vigil, assuring none intercede the journey…

His peace pipe is passed with tobacco brought with you,
The Medicine Man hands you a cup of strange, foul tasting tea,
His native tongue you understand as you finish a cup,
The peyote tea is working, now a spirit journey away with you …

Go with the Sandman’s dust to the Dreamweaver’s ship,
He will guide your spirit, as I watch over your body,
Have no fear as I stay, the Dreamweaver’s voice you will soon hear,
Your body will stay, as your spirit is set free with his crew and him…

I awake in a transcendental state on a cold deck of ice,
A thunderous voice beckons the West wind to send us East,
The Dreamweaver laughed, as I hit the cold deck again,
You’re frightened of my Gnome crew behind the cloud sails…

Looking forward seeing sunlight, then back seeing rain,
Peering down over the side seeing ocean below I understand,
Hearing Banshees screaming and sirens beckoning, only men…

The Dreamweaver announced Prussia is where your journey lies.
In the distance I see a mermaid basking in the sun in her glory,
The gnomes rolled thunder, away she dove seeing only her flipper,
Imploring the Dreamweaver, stop the Gnomes for a closer look…

The mermaid was again basking on a rock, close I dove from the ship,
Before I reached the sea, their thunder roared, a flipper was all I saw, Before hitting the ocean, startled awake back in the Shaman’s care…

Not understanding his words again, my translator elpnained,
The Dreamweaver told him to tell you “Maynun” meaning (driven mad)
Spirits will never be in the physical world keep them in your dreams…

My spirit journey keeps dreams thinking often of that allusive mermaid,
The one I long to meet, yet I will never will, except in my dreams,
Of distance shinning shores, I see her always closer, never to meet,
Thanking her for the creative dreams she sends me time an again…

With great gratitude, Inspired by Tamara J. thank you.

Hi Howard, Its not just In the west strange things happen It is something which happens Just in a flicker of a second Inside the mind we see It is a magic maybe Induced or intutive We do not know But, it lasts with us Many forgotten moments Your poem awoke within Remembering the beauty Of the long lost dream Leading on still pursued And made me nostalgic Reminding me to follow The shadow of my dream again! A beautiful poem, I like the Shamaan - Is he still there around? Angel
