A Drinking Song - Poem by john tiong chunghoo

poetry flows from my heart
the way wine gurgles
into this fine crystal glass
dancing with the moon
clinking to a lonesome night
the riveting sublime light
sparkles like the beauty of verses
sip by sip the light flows into me
line by line spirited verses
oozes from my heart
the essence distillled from
matters of heart and soul
my love, would you pour me wine
vintage wine from that bottle
that has caroused with time
to give us its real wonder?
through it i see the beauty
of the world as verses flow
from a seasoned heart that has
twisted, whaltzed, swung, rocked with time

inspired by

A Drinking Song
WINE comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.
William Butler Yeats

I liked this piece because it has a good flow to it. a good esample of form following function. Some lovely images there too. (Report)Reply

This is excellent and original to my eyes. I totally respect your referencing your inspiration, too. It would be great though if it didn't have to share the same immediate space. (Report)Reply

John, you did yourself in by showing your inspiration. Your poem is indeed original. There are no new ideas, but you have been touched and written this drinking poem in a really new way. I love the idea of poetry flowing from your heart the same way wine flows from a bottle into a crystal glass. I smell the bouquet of your words and savor their taste.
